Landmark building in Chelmsford sold to Brewhouse & Kitchen

04 May 23

We were delighted that the sale of the Anne Knight building completed earlier this year.  The property was purchased by award-winning Brewhouse & Kitchen who offer an extensive range of craft beers, some of which are brewed on site, as well as masterclasses in brewing beer, whisky, and gin.

The building forms a unique part of Chelmsford’s history, named after Anne Knight, a Quaker born in Springfield in the late 1700’s.  She became a social reformer and pioneer and went on to become an avid campaigner for equal rights for women.

Located just moments from Chelmsford train station, the Grade ll listed property was used as a Quaker Meeting House from 1823 until the 1950’s, and formed part of the Anglia Ruskin University campus until they relocated in 2008, before being run as a bar and restaurant.

James Wright, who managed the sale added “Brewhouse & Kitchen is a great addition to Chelmsford’s food and drink scene, offering spaces for a variety of occasions, from celebrations and special events to meetings and corporate events.  We wish them well at their new site and look forward to seeing them thrive.”
